Porter Gilberg has been affiliated with The Center since 2007 when he first began volunteering as a community outreach intern. Gilberg was initially hired as Operations Manager in 2010 and assumed the position of Administrative Director in October 2011. He assumed the position of Executive Director in March 2014.  Gilberg holds a BA in Women’s Studies from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MA in Applied Women’s Studies from Claremont Graduate University. In addition to his service with The Center, Gilberg has volunteered with a number of organizations with the goal of improving the lives of sexual and gender minorities. Gilberg has also been a featured guest lecturer at universities all over Southern California and has participated as a guest panelist at a number of academic and activist conferences all over the country. Gilberg is thrilled to represent The Center as one of the only openly gender non-conforming Executive Directors of a major LGBTQ center in the United States. Gilberg serves on the Advisory Board for the Master of Public Health program at California State University Long Beach, Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Queer Rock Camp Southern California, and also volunteers as Secretary for the Alamitos Beach Neighborhood Association. He was recognized as a Steward of the Second District by Vice Mayor Dr. Suja Lowenthal in 2012 and as one of the Long Beach Post’s 40 Under 40 in 2013.
